Gaupen Planter found an alternative to an ATV

30. September 2026

At Gaupen Planter, distances are long, the passages between the greenhouses are narrow, and the ground conditions are not always easy. When Rune wanted a more efficient way to move between the growing fields, he found a Norwegian utility vehicle that has surprised him in more ways than one.

At Gaupen Planter, large areas need to be monitored throughout the working day. This includes checking irrigation, keeping an eye on the growing fields and locating orders. That means plenty of trips back and forth, and Rune wanted to reduce the time spent on exactly that.

Being able to get quickly from A to B really appealed to me. We save a lot of time on our daily rounds.

I also liked the fact that it is a Norwegian product. We have got a lot of use out of it.

Many people think you need an ATV

At a plant nursery, it is not only the distances that place demands on a vehicle. Ground conditions vary, it can get both muddy and slippery, and parts of the terrain at Gaupen Planter are hilly. This is where the Paxster has surprised Rune.

– If it is muddy or slippery, it gets through. We have some hilly terrain as well, and I think the traction and accessibility are surprisingly good. Many people in this industry probably think you need an ATV. You don’t.

Gaupen Planter’s experience has been that they do not need a larger vehicle for the tasks they need to carry out. On the contrary, the compact size has proved to be an advantage in several areas of the nursery.

Manoeuvrable with a trailer between the greenhouses

Space can be tight between the greenhouses, while equipment and materials still need to be transported around the site. Gaupen Planter uses trailers for several tasks. One of them is approximately the same width as the Paxster, allowing them to continue through the narrow passages. As a result, the vehicle has become useful for more than just the daily rounds between the growing fields.

More tasks throughout the working day

Over time, the Paxster has also found its place in other parts of the working day. It is used when locating orders, while the inverter provides access to 230V power out in the field whenever needed. Although Gaupen Planter does not do much driving on public roads, Rune also appreciates having that option when the need arises. And during the Norwegian working year, there is one small detail he has become particularly fond of; – I really like the heated grips. I appreciate those a lot.

What started as a simple wish to spend less time getting around has therefore developed into a working tool for several different tasks at the nursery. At the same time, the experience has challenged the idea that good off-road capability necessarily requires an ATV.

– I only have good things to say about it. I can definitely see us having more Paxsters in the future.
