When NRK covers the Bislett Games, one of Norway’s most prestigious athletics events, flexible and innovative solutions are essential. For several years, NRK has chosen the Paxster electric utility vehicle as its go-to camera vehicle for filming runners up close. We spoke with Petter Christianslund, Head of Special Photography at NRK, about how the vehicle performs in action – and why it has become a key part of their production setup.

Dynamic TV shots with the right camera vehicle
At the Bislett Games, Paxster is used to transport a custom-built camera rig around the track. This allows NRK to capture dynamic, close-up footage of the athletes throughout the race. “We use the Paxster as a mobile camera platform so we can follow the runners around the entire track,” explains Christianslund. The camera rig is fully stabilized and operated remotely by a cameraman seated in the stands. The live feed is transmitted directly to the control room, where the TV broadcast is produced.

Why NRK chose Paxster: compact, silent, and efficient
Choosing the right camera vehicle for this demanding task wasn’t simple. “We needed a vehicle that was compact and quiet, yet had enough space for our camera rig. The Paxster was the perfect fit,” says Christianslund. Silence is crucial during broadcasts. Since the cameras are equipped with microphones that pick up the sound of the athletes, eliminating motor noise is essential. Paxster’s compact size also makes it easy to navigate the inner track without obstructing spectators or other cameras.
Performance that keeps pace with world-class athletes
A key requirement for the camera vehicle is that it must keep up with the pace of the runners – even when records are on the line.
“Keeping pace with the Ingebrigtsen brothers when world records are at stake is an absolute must!”

Proven reliability and future possibilities
Paxster has proven to be a reliable solution at the Bislett Games. The vehicle has performed without technical issues, and drivers especially appreciate the roof on rainy days. Looking ahead, NRK is considering the Paxster Air to further minimize the vehicle’s physical footprint on the track. “Paxster has been extremely accommodating, delivering the vehicle exactly when we need it. We have nothing but positive things to say about both the product and the partnership,” Christianslund adds.
A creative use of electric utility vehicles
The Bislett Games is a great example of how electric utility vehicles like Paxster can play a crucial role in demanding TV productions. When special needs arise, it’s often creativity that determines what’s possible — and Paxster continues to prove its value as part of NRK’s innovative production solutions.
