Paxster contributes to the future of zero-emission urban logistics through Shift2Zero

9. October 2025

Through the European innovation project Shift2Zero, Paxster, DHL and the city of Bergen, is testing new solutions for sustainable urban logistics in Bergen, Norway. The goal is to develop practical zero-emission delivery solutions that work in modern city environments, benefiting transport operators, businesses, and urban communities alike.

A European collaboration for green urban transport

The Shift2Zero project is an EU-funded initiative that brings together partners from across Europe to develop and test new concepts for zero-emission distribution. The project explores how electric light commercial vehicles and modular logistics systems can contribute to safer and more efficient goods transport in urban areas.

Bergen is one of the pilot cities, and the experiences gained here play an important role in identifying solutions that can be scaled and adapted to cities throughout Europe.

New technologies in action

In Bergen, Paxster, DHL, and the City of Bergen, in collaboration with Nivel, are demonstrating two technologies that illustrate what smart urban deliveries can look like in practice: dynamic geofencing and the Swap Box system.

Dynamic geofencing enables a vehicle to automatically adjust its speed and performance based on its location, for example in shared zones where pedestrians and vehicles coexist. The system allows for real-time updates, giving municipalities greater flexibility in urban planning and traffic management.

The Swap Box system is a modular solution that allows entire cargo units to be exchanged quickly, without the need for large micro-depots. These modules can be pre-packed outside the city center and easily rolled into the vehicle, streamlining the last-mile delivery process and reducing the need for space in densely populated areas.

Sharing knowledge and experience

The insights and results from the Bergen pilot will become part of the wider Shift2Zero network, supporting the development of scalable, zero-emission logistics solutions across Europe.

For Paxster, the project provides valuable experience in connecting technology, logistics, and urban planning, helping shape how future-ready urban logistics can be efficient, safe, and environmentally responsible.

Toward more sustainable distribution

Shift2Zero is about more than technology, it’s about testing realistic, zero-emission logistics solutions that can be adopted by transport companies, municipalities, and the private sector. Through this collaboration, Paxster, DHL, and the City of Bergen demonstrate how electric vehicles and smart delivery concepts can help create more sustainable and livable cities, now and in the future.
